Combating Climate Change

Combating Climate Change and Emission Management

As Türkiye Sigorta, we carry out our work in line with our strategy to combat climate change in order to reduce the environmental impacts of climate change.

Key elements of our strategy to combat climate change are summarized as follows;

Ensuring that the Board of Directors manages climate risks and opportunities by integrating them into corporate strategy and risk management,

Analyzing well how climate risk affects products, operations and value chains,

Reporting scope 1, scope 2 and scope 3 greenhouse gas emissions in accordance with the Greenhouse Gas Protocol,

To set a net zero carbon target in line with the national target,

Setting corporate decarbonization targets based on science,

Reporting progress on an annual basis against pre-determined and consistent targets

While managing our operations, we evaluate the risks and opportunities created by climate change with teams formed from operational units. We aim to facilitate access to insurance instruments to mitigate the risks posed by climate change and enrich our renewable energy portfolio in line with our sustainable insurance approach. As of 2024, we maintained our sector leadership by providing TRY 294.5 billion of coverage for renewable energy projects. However, while evaluating requests from non-renewable power plants within the scope of our operations, we set more challenging offer conditions, conduct a risk measurement assessment of the power plant and evaluate non-performing investments to a limited extent.

In addition to the inclusion of our value chain, which we operationally define as external factors, and the work we continue in this context, we strive to minimize our environmental footprint in terms of internal factors within the scope of combating climate change. Greenhouse gases from our operations are a result of the total energy consumed by the Head Office and Regional Directorates throughout the year. Energy consumption consists of electricity purchased for lighting, heating and cooling (air conditioners), natural gas purchased for heating, as well as fuel consumption for daily activities (vehicle use and employee transportation).

As of 2024, our energy consumption amounted to 51,801 GJ. Our headquarters building meets 86% of its electrical energy needs from YEK-G certified renewable energy. In line with our emission reduction targets, central heating and cooling systems and energy-efficient equipment are used. In this context, we aim to reduce our energy consumption by 15% by 2030.

In 2024, with the digitalization of our processes, 204,000 mailings were sent digitally, saving TL 12.4 million. In line with the management of waste generated within the scope of our operations, 7,715 kg of paper waste, 4,296 kg of plastic waste, 190 kg of metal waste, 1,344 kg of glass waste and 34,583 kg of household waste were recycled.

As of 2024, our greenhouse gas emissions have been calculated as 1,501 tonnes of CO₂e for Scope 1, 691 tonnes of CO₂e for Scope 2 location-based, 577 tonnes of CO₂e for Scope 2 market-based, and 4,659 tonnes of CO₂e for Scope 3. In particular, we have included investment-related emissions in the calculation of our Scope 3 emissions to ensure transparency.

In order to increase the environmental awareness of our employees, 1,218 hours of environmental and energy efficiency training was organized. As of 2024, 7,047 saplings were donated on behalf of all our employees and agencies as part of our Company's 4th anniversary.

With its responsible insurance, zero waste, carbon management and supplier management teams, Türkiye Sigorta will continue its efforts to achieve its 2053 net zero targets.
