Environment and Climate Change Policy
1. PURPOSE AND SCOPE
Türkiye Sigorta A.Ş. considers environmental and climate change issues as fundamental elements of its sustainability approach, and assesses and manages the risks that may arise in these areas with an integrated approach.
Türkiye Sigorta Environment and Climate Change Policy covers Türkiye Sigorta A.Ş.'s environmental sustainability strategy, its commitments to combat climate change, its approach to managing the environmental impacts of its product and service processes, and the information it provides to its stakeholders within this framework.
With the Environmental and Climate Change Policy implemented by Türkiye Sigorta A.Ş., the framework of how the efforts to be carried out to reduce the impact on the environment and prevent climate change will be handled has been drawn. In line with the principles set out in the policy, efforts are made to monitor environmental performance, use resources efficiently, reduce carbon footprint, mitigate the effects of risks related to the environment and climate change, and ensure compliance with legal requirements. This Policy is binding for all employees and business partners of Türkiye Sigorta A.Ş.
2. CONTEXT
Türkiye Sigorta A.Ş. addresses environmental sustainability within the framework of two main criteria:
Impacts Arising from Operational Processes: The company's operations have various environmental impacts, such as energy consumption, water usage, paper and other material consumption, waste generation, and greenhouse gas emissions.
Impacts Arising from Products and Services: Managing environmental risks in the insurance sector is a critical issue. Türkiye Sigorta provides various insurance solutions to help its customers minimize their environmental and climate change-related risks and develops sustainable products and services.
In this context, Türkiye Sigorta prioritizes environmental sustainability in all its operations, product and service development processes, investment decisions, and social responsibility projects, committing to minimizing its negative impacts on the environment.
3. MANAGEMENT AND COMPLIANCE
Türkiye Sigorta A.Ş. manages its processes related to environmental and climate change in full compliance with applicable national and international legislation, regulatory frameworks, and industry standards. In cases where the legislation does not explicitly regulate an issue, universal values and globally accepted management principles will be adopted.
A management system is implemented to measure, evaluate, and report environmental performance in accordance with international standards.
The Corporate Governance and Sustainability Committee within Türkiye Sigorta A.Ş. evaluates environmental and climate change-related risks and opportunities, sets policies and strategies, monitors implementations, and reports to relevant units.
The Environmental and Climate Change Working Group integrates the strategies determined by the Corporate Governance and Sustainability Committee into work plans, ensures their application in operational processes, and tracks performance outcomes, reporting to the committee.
Training and/or communication activities are carried out to raise awareness of employees, agents, internal and/or external stakeholders, and the general public on environmental and climate change issues.
Follows incentive mechanisms to be used in the projects it develops and the investments it will make, prioritizing access to green finance. Through suggestion and reward systems, it encourages the efforts of its employees and business partners to improve climate and environmental performance.
4. AREAS OF IMPLEMENTATION
4.1 CLIMATE CHANGE AND ENERGY
Aware of the risks posed by climate change, Türkiye Sigorta takes the following steps aimed at reducing its carbon footprint and increasing energy efficiency:
Regularly measures, tracks, and develops actions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions arising within the company.
Implements measures to increase energy efficiency and promotes the transition to renewable energy sources.
Organizes awareness programs to reduce the carbon footprint of its employees.
Develops insurance solutions for climate change risks, providing support to its customers in transitioning to a low-carbon economy.
4.2. MATERIAL USE AND WASTE MANAGEMENT
Türkiye Sigorta A.Ş. adopts the following practices to minimize resource use and reduce waste during its operations:
Adopts a paperless insurance approach, accelerating digitalization processes and reducing paper consumption.
Aims to increase recycling rates by sorting waste at the source.
Reduces the use of plastic and single-use materials, promoting the use of sustainable materials.
4.3. OTHER ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACTS
Türkiye Sigorta A.Ş. takes the following steps to minimize the environmental impacts arising from its direct operations:
Water Management: Develops various practices to minimize water usage and promote water conservation.
Air Quality and Emission Control: Encourages the use of low-emission energy sources for building heating and transportation activities.
Responsible Investment Policy: Prioritizes sustainability-focused investments by considering environmental and social factors in its financial investments.
5. STAKEHOLDER PARTNERSHIPS AND REPORTING
Türkiye Sigorta A.Ş. collaborates with non-governmental organizations, public institutions, and academic circles that operate in the field of environmental and climate change at national and international levels.
Reports its environmental sustainability performance in accordance with international standards such as the Turkish Sustainability Reporting Standards (TSRS), GRI, and UNPRI, and shares this information with the public.
Monitors the company’s environmental performance, evaluates improvement opportunities, and adopts the principle of continuous development.
6. ENFORCEMENT
This policy has been approved by the Board of Directors and is reviewed at least once a year, and updated and published when necessary.
This policy was approved by the Board of Directors of Türkiye Sigorta A.Ş. on 03.03.2025 with decision number 18 and entered into force. When necessary, the policy may be amended by the decision of the Board of Directors.
